Salix nigra
This native willow tree can create extensive root systems that will quickly stabilize stream beds. It can also stabilize the bank of a pond and provide shade for aquatic animals on hot summer days. It requires consistently wet soil, so be sure to establish cuttings directly next to a water source. Larval host for the Mourning Cloak and Viceroy.
