FAQs

What makes Arthur’s Point Farm different from a typical nursery?

We are growers first: nearly everything we sell has been trialed on our own farm.

We focus on systems: trees, shrubs, and perennials that work together in agroforestry plantings, hedgerows, riparian buffers, and home landscapes.

Check out our blog, biochar web series, and planting guide to learn more.

How can I order plants from you?

You can order directly through the Nursery Shop on our website, selecting from categories like Trees & Shrubs, Native Perennials, and Planting Accessories. For larger or mixed orders, you can also use our Plant Order Form linked from the shop.

You can come shop in person on our Open Nursery Days during the growing season. Join our newsletter to get updates on open hours and days, and news from the farm.

How do I get my plants?

Potted plants (in root-prune pouches) can be ordered online ordering for on-farm pickup. If you prefer to shop in person, you can find our potted plants at Open Nursery Days, or at select partner retailers during the growing season. Delivery is available for a fee for orders over $500.

Bareroot plants must be ordered online and are available for shipping or on-farm pickup during specific windows in March, April, and December.

What are root-prune pouches?

Most of our potted plants are grown in root-prune pouches, which are fabric containers that naturally air-prune roots and encourage dense, non-circling root systems.

To plant:

  • Dig a hole to the depth of the pouch and slightly wider.
  • Cut an “X” in the bottom of the pouch.
  • Set the pouch in the hole and cut up the sides, peeling the fabric away as you backfill.
  • Remove the pouch entirely, then water deeply.
What is a bareroot plant?

Bareroot trees and shrubs are dug in late fall while dormant and shipped with roots wrapped in a moist medium (usually sawdust) in a protective bag. There is no heavy pot or soil, which reduces shipping cost and allows for excellent root establishment once planted.

When do you ship?

We ship bareroot plants when they are dormant (in early spring and late fall). They are also available for pick-up at the farm during the same time period.

Potted plants are available for pickup or delivery ($500+ orders for a fee) only.
