Chestnut oak is a native, climate-resilient tree suited to agroforestry, hedgerows, ornamental plantings, and wildlife forage. Quercus montana is a member of the white oak family, flowering from March through May. Oaks are among the most valuable tree species in the Northeast, hosting hundreds of insect species. Their acorns provide food for birds and mammals, supporting a wide range of wildlife.

Chestnut oak grows 65–145 ft tall and 50–70 ft wide. It grows in part sun and prefers dry to average or dry soil moisture conditions, including well-drained, sandy, and gravelly soils. It is hardy in zones 4–8 and is native to the Northeast, Midwest, and Southeast.

Chestnut oak also produces high-quality, rot-resistant wood and offers edible acorns, pollinator value, and wildlife forage. When planted correctly and given consistent watering, bareroot plants can establish and develop into mature trees.
