Product Details
White pine is a fast-growing northern conifer valued for its soft blue-green needles and straight-grained timber. We offer this species as bareroot stock for late fall and early spring dormant planting, allowing for cost-effective establishment of windbreaks or reforestation projects. When planted correctly in suitable soil, these seedlings establish reliable root systems before top growth begins.
Pinus strobus is distinguished by its soft, bluish-green foliage and rapid growth rate. It is highly tolerant of pruning, making it suitable for shaping into dense hedges or screens. While it is considered one of the most valuable timber trees in North America, it also serves as a host for the larvae of the Imperial moth (Eacles imperialis).
This tree thrives in well-drained sandy soils of medium quality and prefers full sun, though it can grow normally in up to 45% shade. It should not be planted in heavy clay or poorly drained sites where it may struggle. White pine is capable of competing with black walnut trees and provides significant wildlife value, offering seeds for birds and mammals as well as shelter within its bushy foliage.
Choosing bareroot stock ensures a practical start for larger landscape projects or conservation plantings. With a well-prepared site and appropriate drainage, this evergreen develops into a substantial specimen reaching heights of 50 to 100 feet.
