Product Details

Tulip poplar is a fast-growing giant of the northeastern hardwood forests, prized for its stately form and distinctive foliage. We offer this species as bareroot stock for late fall and early spring dormant planting, providing a cost-effective way to introduce this massive shade tree to larger properties. When planted correctly in a well-prepared site, these young trees establish readily before top growth begins.

Liriodendron tulipifera, also known as tulip tree or yellow poplar, serves as a cornerstone species in regional hardwood forests. This important timber tree is capable of reaching heights up to 150 feet, producing beautiful blooms that typically appear over 50 feet up the trunk. While the flowers can be difficult to see from the ground due to their height, they remain a key feature of this impressive species.

Due to its immense size and relatively shallow root system, tulip poplar is best suited as a specimen or shade tree in spacious landscapes rather than small yards. It thrives in rich, moist soils with exposure ranging from part shade to full sun. Beyond its shade value, the tree supports local ecosystems by hosting the eastern swallowtail butterfly and attracting hummingbirds and other pollinators to its nectar-rich flowers.

Planting bareroot stock allows these substantial trees to develop a strong foundation early in the season. Growers can expect vigorous upward growth once the tree settles into a well-prepared site.
