Product Details

Swamp rosemallow is a bold native perennial valued for its exceptionally large blooms and strong visual impact in moisture-rich plantings. Offered as potted stock grown in root-prune pouches, it can be planted through the growing season when conditions allow, making it well suited for rain gardens, pond edges, and low-lying landscape areas.

Botanically known as Hibiscus moscheutos, this species produces large flowers in shades of white, pink, or burgundy from mid to late summer. Native across much of the Midwest, Northeast, Southeast, Southwest, and West, it is widely used for its ornamental presence and adaptability in wetland and garden settings.

Swamp rosemallow typically grows 3 to 7 feet tall with a spread of 2 to 4 feet, forming a substantial focal point in planting designs. It grows in full sun to part sun and establishes in a wide range of soils including loam, sandy, clay, and organic or mucky planting areas, from well-drained to poorly drained conditions and in both acidic and calcareous soils when planted into a well-prepared site.

This species fits well in riparian plantings, wetland edges, and ornamental borders where bold seasonal color is desired. It provides habitat for rose mallow bees, supports butterfly larvae including checkered skippers and gray hairstreaks, and attracts hummingbirds, making potted stock grown in root-prune pouches a practical way to introduce this high-impact native perennial into water-influenced landscapes.
