Product Details

Pin Oak is a fast-growing native tree valued for its strong structure, adaptability, and vivid fall foliage in larger landscapes and restoration plantings. Offered as potted stock grown in root-prune pouches, it can be planted through the growing season when conditions allow, making it a practical option for establishing trees in wetland projects, riparian areas, and open landscapes.

Botanically known as Quercus palustris, this species grows faster than many other oaks and plays an important ecological role. It serves as a host to numerous Lepidoptera species, including White-M hairstreak, banded hairstreak, and gray hairstreak, providing outsize habitat value in wetland and lowland systems.

Pin oak is well suited for wetland restoration, riparian buffers, and landscapes with variable moisture conditions. It grows in full sun to part sun and prefers loamy or clay planting areas, tolerating both flooding and drier sites, and can reach a mature height of around 60 feet with a spread of about 50 feet.

This species is a strong choice for sites where durability and long-term ecological value are priorities. With consistent care during the establishment phase, it develops into a large canopy tree capable of supporting a wide range of wildlife, making potted stock grown in root-prune pouches a practical way to introduce this adaptable oak into restoration and landscape plantings.
