Product Details

Foxglove beardtongue offers significant ecological value as a nectar source that bridges the critical gap between spring ephemerals and summer blooms. Offered as potted stock grown in root-prune pouches, these plants are ready for planting throughout the growing season. This production method supports a healthy root system, allowing the plant to settle effectively into garden beds or restoration sites.

Penstemon digitalis is a short-lived perennial that forms clumps and thrives in moist areas such as prairies and open woods. While the common name suggests a resemblance to foxglove, it is a distinct species noted for its showy flowers that attract butterflies, hummingbirds, and bees. The seed for this stock was collected within 250 miles of Arthur’s Point Farm, ensuring genetics adapted to regional conditions.

This adaptable species fits well in rain gardens, pollinator strips, and meadow plantings. It is hardy in zones 3–8 and tolerates a range of conditions from full sun to light shade and dry to moist soils. Foxglove beardtongue is an excellent option for poorly drained clay, though it should not be planted in wet shade. At maturity, plants can reach up to 5 feet tall and 2 feet wide.

Choosing potted stock allows for flexible installation timing when site conditions are favorable. With proper placement in a well-prepared site, this deer-tolerant perennial establishes readily to provide seasonal color and essential support for local pollinators.
