Cardinal Flower (Potted)

Cardinal flower is a striking native wildflower known for its distinct stalks of bright red blooms that attract hummingbirds and butterflies in late summer. Offered as potted stock grown in root-prune pouches, these plants are ready for planting throughout the growing season to establish quickly in moist garden spots.

Lobelia cardinalis thrives in wetland environments and provides essential late-season nectar. While individual plants are considered short-lived perennials, this species self-seeds readily before dying back after a few seasons, allowing it to persist in the landscape. It pairs well with great blue lobelia, which shares similar growing requirements and bloom times.

Ideally suited for rain gardens, riparian buffers, or moist borders, this plant requires consistent moisture to thrive. It performs best in full sun to partial shade and prefers moist soil conditions. Reaching a mature height of 2–4 feet with a spread of 1–2 feet, it adds vertical interest and vibrant color to wet areas where other plants might struggle.
