Product Details

Sugar Maple serves as the primary source for commercial maple syrup production and yields high-quality hardwood for diverse applications. We offer this species as bareroot stock for dormant planting in late fall and early spring, providing an economical option for establishing sugarbushes or timber stands. When planted correctly in appropriate soil conditions, these seedlings develop into long-lived canopy trees.

Native to forested regions from the Appalachian Mountains to New England and Canada, Acer saccharum is a defining species of northern hardwood forests. It is notably shade-tolerant, a trait that distinguishes it from many other desirable timber species, allowing it to persist in the understory before reaching the canopy.

This tree thrives in fertile, moist, well-drained soils and can be planted in locations ranging from part shade to full sun. It supports local wildlife, including red, gray, and flying squirrels that feed on seeds and buds, while its early-season pollen offers a critical resource for bees. Growers should avoid sites with exposure to road salt, pollution, or drought, as the species does not tolerate these stressors well.

Establishing a sugar bush is a generational investment, with trees typically reaching tappable size after approximately 40 years. Bareroot planting allows for broad-scale restoration or orchard planning on a well-prepared site.
