Product Details

Silky Dogwood serves as an excellent choice for stabilizing banks and supporting local wildlife along wetland edges. We offer this species as bareroot stock, which is ideal for planting during late fall and early spring before top growth begins. This format allows for cost-effective installation of large-scale conservation projects or hedgerows. When planted correctly in suitable conditions, these shrubs establish reliable root systems for long-term resilience.

Swida amomum is naturally found on the outskirts of wetlands where it thrives in moist environments. This shrubby species tends to create dense thickets, making it highly effective for erosion control. It features unique fruit that transitions from white to blue, offering a food source for various bird species. Additionally, it acts as a larval host for the Spring Azure and Summer Azure butterflies.

Ideally suited for riparian buffers, rain gardens, and habitat restoration projects, this shrub performs well in moist, well-drained soils and can tolerate standing water. It grows to approximately 10 feet tall and 6 feet wide at maturity, requiring full sun to part shade. While it prefers damp locations, it should not be planted in wet shade where it cannot get adequate light.

Choosing bareroot plants ensures you are working with dormant stock ready to adapt to your specific site conditions. Once in the ground, this dogwood contributes to a healthy ecosystem by securing soil and feeding local fauna. A well-prepared site will help ensure successful establishment and vigorous growth in the coming seasons.
