Product Details

Bald Cypress is a distinct deciduous conifer valued for its feathery foliage, rot-resistant wood, and adaptability to wet sites. We offer this species as bareroot stock for planting during late fall and early spring dormant windows. This format is cost-effective for restoration projects or larger landscape installations. When planted correctly before top growth begins, these trees establish strong root systems capable of supporting long-term growth.

Known botanically as Taxodium distichum, this native of the Southeast is a hardy tree often found in swamps, shallow ponds, and riparian zones. It features sage-green needles that turn bright copper in the autumn before dropping. In consistently wet environments, the tree often develops characteristic "knees" at the base of the trunk, which are thought to aid in oxygen exchange during flooding events.

This species serves as a vital component of swamp ecosystems, where it helps prevent erosion, absorbs floodwaters, and provides wildlife habitat. It is also a popular ornamental choice due to its unique texture and seasonal color. Bald Cypress is hardy in zones 4–10 and typically reaches 50–75 feet in height with a spread of 25 feet at maturity. While it naturally inhabits wet, poorly drained areas, it can establish in a variety of soil conditions.

Planting bareroot stock allows growers to introduce this resilient species efficiently. The tree produces heartwood noted for its rot resistance, historically used for fence posts and boat building. For best results, install in a well-prepared site where the tree can access adequate moisture during its early development.
