Silene caroliniana
Small, compact plants produce 50-100 showy pink blooms in spring. Wild pink makes a great groundcover, as it spreads to form a mat, is semi-evergreen, and is tolerant of a variety of soil and light conditions. Also known as sticky catchfly, wild pink has hairs along its stem to discourage predation from insects. Once established, it is fairly drought tolerant; it can be prone to root rot in water logged conditions. It is visited by butterflies and hummingbirds.
