Symphyotrichum laeve
Come fall, it is a welcome sight to see Smooth Aster’s lovely flowers that are composed of light purple “ray” flowers and yellow “disc” flowers in the center. The smooth, glaucous stem and leaves are quite distinct among asters. Smooth Aster attracts many pollinators, its seeds feed mammals and songbirds, and it is the larval host to the Pearl Crescent butterfly.
