Morus alba x rubra ‘Illinois Everbearing’
This is a selected red mulberry cultivar grafted onto Russian mulberry seedlings. It is very hardy (to -20F), and fast-growing even in poor soils. Illinois Everbearing will sometimes begin to produce fruit the first year after planting. Illinois Everbearing gets its name because its fruit continues to ripen for months. Fruit is about 1.5″ long and has a distinctive sweet flavor. ย The fruit is particularly enjoyed by a variety of bird species. Illinois Everbearing is self-fruitful, meaning you only need one tree to produce fruit.

Habitat: Prefers full sun, but will tolerate partial shade. Prefers moist, well-drained soils, but can thrive in a variety of soils.
