Quercus velutina
A common oak species of northeastern forests that is well-adapted to this region. Like other oaks, it hosts hundreds of different insects, including caterpillars of many butterflies and moths. It has a distinguishing yellow-orange inner bark, and blocky bark makes this tree resistant to fire.
