Rudbeckia hirta
A variety of our native Black-Eyed Susan, this perennial flower boasts beautiful, large flowers with a long bloom time. Typical Black-Eyed Susans feature purely yellow flowers whereas this variety has flowers with a burnt red center that fade into yellow on the outside of the petals. It will begin to bloom in the early summer and continue to produce new blooms until the first frost. Makes an excellent cut flower. The wildflower leaves act as a larval host to the Silvery Checkerspot, Gorgone Checkerspot, and Bordered Patch.
