Salix purpurea
Also known as basket willow, this is a favorite amongst weavers. Although non-native, it has been historically used for erosion control along rivers and streams and is now considered to be naturalized. This shrubby willow has slender, purple-like twigs and will spread into thickets once established. Its dense, shrubby growth can provide shelter for birds and small mammals. Larval host for the Mourning Cloak and Viceroy.
